The ER WIZardry ...

..., or in short Erwiz, is a tool to convert easily a text-based entity-relationship model to an image. It's a fork of Erviz.

The current goal is to provide Linux/Unix packages for the following distributions:

  • Arch Linux (done, visit AUR)
  • Debian (done, see the download section)
  • Mac OS X
  • openSUSE
  • Ubuntu (done, see the download section)

If you're a Linux packager please consider to choose another distribution because I include the package files for these distributions in my build and package process to keep the packages as much up-to-date as possible.

Also a Windows version will be available in the future.

Stand-alone: Erwiz 0.9.0

Debian/Ubuntu package:erwiz_0.9.0-1_all.deb

Erwiz is easy to use. In a Linux Terminal (shell) you execute erwiz model.txt picture.png where model.txt is the textual description of your entity-relationship and picture.png is the rendered image of your text-based model.

These types for the output file are supported:

bmp canon cmap cmapx cmapx_np dot eps fig gd gd2 gif gv ico imap imap_np ismap jpe jpeg jpg pdf plain plain-ext png ps ps2 svg svgz tif tiff tk vml vmlz vrml wbmp x11 xdot xlib

You can contact the Erwiz maintainer on the freenode irc channel #erwiz but consider that the traffic is very low there. If you don't have an irc client installed, click here. If you prefer to leave a message on his blog, click here.
